Our Take on Tuxedos:

Everyone enjoys dressing up.  It’s when you know you look your best that you personify your true self and exude confidence.  Whether it’s a wedding, award show or charity gala, the tuxedo is your best look and it shows.  Since tuxedos are not your everyday look, there are some common questions and uncertainties when it comes to the proper way to wear a tuxedo.

Tuxedo Do’s

–         A pleated tuxedo shirt should always be finished with a bow tie.

–         Always wear a French cuff shirt with a Tuxedo.  If it’s a winged collar shirt, tabs should be worn behind the bow tie.

–         Cummerbunds should always be worn with the pleat facing up.

–         Formal braces or suspenders should always be worn.

Tuxedo Don’ts

–         Tuxedo pants should never have cuffs.

–         Never wear a belt with a tuxedo.

–         Never wear a waistcoat or vest with a cummerbund.

And finally, if you think no one will notice your shoes, think again.  There is a difference between dress shoes and formal shoes.  When wearing a tuxedo, try a lace up patent loafer or Astor & Black’s crested velvet loafers.

I am wondering about your thoughts regarding NOT wearing a Tux at my daughters December wedding; I an considering a black vested business suit with a white shirt and gold tie (wedding colors) I seldom have the opportunity to wear a tux, and find I would get very little use investing in a tux, Realistically even a black suit is to formal for my lifestyle. Maybe Dark Navy Blue?

Suits in lieu of wedding tuxedos have become increasingly popular. We’ve seen it done a million ways. A dark navy blue suit can be quite formal, as can a a very light fabric with the right styling. As the father of the bride, you want to fit in with the rest of the party but a bit of distinction can only help. Whatever you should choose to wear, we agree, it should fit you impeccably, not just on your body, but in your lifestyle.

These 3 jackets are great! The houndstooth is the bomb! I have always been a little apprehensive about ordering without trying the item on. But I would like to know more about this houndstooth jacket.

    Thanks

Ray, our clothiers can measure you and make this (or whatever you’d like) to fit your exact measurements. http://astorandblack.com/contact. This particular fabric is from our Scabal collection and it is spectacular!
